Meaning you can have your characters move in whatever direction you want as they progress. While not the most common, there’s several classless systems out there. A place where this game takes a big leap, though, is that each player plays multiple characters. Yeah, it’s not just your one character. You have your hero, who will be a bit more detailed and powerful than the others. Then you have your commoners. These are 1-3 characters that represent “typical” people of your hero’s race. So each player will have a small band that they’re adventuring around with. If you want to take a look, they have a basic Mission Manual that you can check out and see how it all works.
